If you are installing a new bathroom or thinking of upgrading your existing one then you may want to install a wet room. There are a number of advantages to having a wet room and it could prove to be not only very practical but also even add value to your home. It is perfect for those that need added accessibility requirements too due to the open plan style. Traditional showers or bathtubs can be difficult for those with mobility issues, but a wet room removes barriers and provides a safe, spacious area for people with mobility challenges.

A wet room allows for a shower area that is not enclosed with a tray or sides. You may still have a curtain in a wet room to prevent splashing to other areas of the room when showering, but often they are open spaces. A wet room needs to be relatively large if you are thinking of incorporating a toilet and sink too as you do not want everything to get soaking wet when taking a shower. Having said that, you can make great use of space in smaller bathrooms by making it in to a wet room as you remove the need for a shower enclosure.

The beauty of designing your own wet room is that you can great it with exactly what you want and need and make it extremely practical for your home. You can also choose to make it modern of more traditional if you wish.

Wet rooms are often extremely easy to clean because there are no hidden little corners or areas for dirt and grime to accumulate, cleaning is simple and quick. All you need to do is wipe down the walls and floor with a mild cleaner, and you’re done. There is no need for lots of different types of cleaners that you may have to use in a traditional shower cubical. This also makes them more hygienic and less likely to accumulate mould and mildew. You will need to think about ventilation though to ensure it is sufficient to help dry the room out when not in use.

Because the entire room is waterproofed, there is no risk of leaks or water damage that you may get with a shower cubical or bath. This can save you money on repairs and maintenance in the long run.

Not only is a wet room practical but installing a wet room can add value to your property and make it more attractive to potential buyers.
